A year in business - time flies

It’s hard to believe we only started trading a year ago, it feels so much longer in some ways (and my eye bags would tell you considerably longer!) Going into this, Claire and I were prepared to work hard to achieve the success we wanted for Lister & Bruce and we have worked tirelessly to make that happen and whilst we still have a way to go we are very proud of how far we have come. It is hard work running your own business as any business owner will tell you and even harder going into something that you have no prior experience of, but every day we get to work to our own agenda knowing that everything we are doing is taking our business one step further on our journey to success.

The last year has thrown us into an unknown world, having both come from marketing backgrounds, the design of the pyjamas and the branding aspect was straight forward for us but manufacturing was a whole different ball game. We knew from the start that organic cotton was imperative and that we wanted an ethical factory who shared our passion for sustainability. After a lot of meetings and searching, we are so pleased we have found the 2 factories we have been working with, they have allowed our ideas to become a reality and for this little business to thrive and get our products out into the World.

There are days when we still pinch ourselves and can’t quite believe that this is ours. The support we have had from family and friends along the way has been invaluable and has allowed us to keep doing what we love, so thank you to all of you who have helped – sharing a social media post, helping us with our finance management (spreadsheets!), even just telling a friend about our brand, we are forever grateful. What started out as a pipe dream is a reality and we are now selling into more and more shops up and down the country, not just directly through our website which is amazing. We've won our first Junior Design Award which we are very proud of and we were also selected to be one of Theo Paphitis's SBS (Small Business Sunday) winners and will be meeting him in a few weeks. We always knew we had a good idea with MyJamas and the clever cuffs but as anyone in business will tell you, a good idea isn’t enough and it’s what you do with it that counts. Well, 1 and a bit years on and we are still going strong and can’t wait to launch our next line (to be announced in the next few weeks) – we think you’re going to love the designs. This new collection has been entirely driven by customer feedback from the current range of pyjamas so we are pretty excited about the big reveal. All I’ll say is they will make the perfect gifts for the little ones in your life.

So year one is done, we have learnt a LOT and we have so much to be thankful for, now onto year 2 and bigger and better things, watch this space…we are coming for you 2020!!
