Christmas shopping (in October…I KNOW!)

winter ski kids pyjamas

2020 has been a tough year for so many businesses up and down the country from huge fashion houses to small one-man bands. Many organisations who shut temporarily during lockdown have now closed permanently and our high streets are looking a lot quieter than they did 7 months ago. With Covid-19 not going away any time soon, many are still nervous about physically visiting shops but where we can and it is safe, we should. If you have a local gift shop on your high street, think about buying some of your Christmas presents there this year – even just some stocking fillers, take a trip to your independent off-licence for your festive tipples, get the kids their winter boots from your local children’s shoe shop – just think about putting a few £ back into your local community if you can.  Unfortunately, the saying if we don’t use it, we’ll lose it has never been more apt than today.

There is of course a whole world of shopping to be had behind our keyboards and one which we, Lister & Bruce are a part of. It has never been easier to click buy now and get things delivered the next day (or even within the hour) and Amazon certainly has it’s place, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a customer of theirs. However, there are so many small independent run businesses with people like me and Claire behind them, working so desperately hard to keep going and to bring you unique, high quality gifts that you can’t find elsewhere. So, if you want to help show your support there are so many ways in which you can (and they don’t all involve spending lots of money); like and share their social media posts and save them to your collection (this really helps on Instagram), write them a great review – let’s face it, you look for the 5* on Amazon and independent websites are no different.  If you can buy from them then that’s fantastic and obviously really helps.

We have made a promise to ourselves to buy most of our Christmas gifts from small, independent, family run businesses this year where we can, it may mean a few less presents but we know they will be quality, unique and we can feel good that we are doing our bit to keep another brand afloat.

This is not meant to be preachy in any way and over the course of the next few months we will be sharing other brands we like with you all to inspire you with your purchases. This will also ensure we put our money where our mouth is as we like to share products, we have experience with. (We may need to be careful not to give away too many of the gifts we have bought as lots of our friends and family are also followers!)

So I guess Christmas shopping is going to be somewhat different this year, so many markets are cancelled (please do visit ones that are open if you feel safe to do so), in some areas we can’t go shopping with our friends and in some cases the stores we used to visit have closed, but Christmas certainly isn’t cancelled and know that when you buy from someone like us you really are helping to put food on the table, and ensuring we can buy Christmas presents for our friends and family too.  Thanks all and enjoy shopping xx

PS If you’re thinking of putting together Christmas Eve boxes for you children this year, our winter polar bear or ski pyjamas and matching baby sleepsuit are the perfect choice!
